Have you seen the new Star Trek Movie? It promises to be the summer blockbuster of 2009. Early reviews have given it 10/10 but those who are loyal long time fans of the franchise criticize the movie for being too mainstream and that it does not focus on social issues like previous movies.
Personally I can’t wait to see it.
I didn’t love it…but I didn’t hate it either! I thought the movie was great overall – lots of fun. However, it could have been better. Personally, I would have liked to see more dialog and character development. I never watched the original series, so I had no context for it. There was too much action and no time to really take it in.
Another criticism is the lack of strong female characters. I know the original cast was male-dominated, but couldn’t they have thrown in some women as the new characters? Perhaps an ambassador or two? At least make the bad guy a woman!
